Creating content is one of the most important chapters in online selling. In fact, I immediately spent 2-3 days to complete 1 article. But there’s something even more important:
Promote content.
In order for your new content or new blog to receive visitors, you have to spend 4x more time than creating content.
This is expressed by Derek Halpern of SocialTriggers .
This means that if I make 1 article in 2 days, then the rest of the week is for special offers. Why so much?
Because when you press the ‘publish’ button, on the same day there are millions of other posts that are also published. Your article is just a fish in a vast ocean.
If it’s like that, then how can a new blog – which is not yet known – be able to get the attention of many people?
The answer: content promotion.
Watch out: Big mistake in content promotion
Promotion in the online world is synonymous with negative things. If you are an internet lover like me, you will understand what I mean. People on the internet don’t like promotions and advertisements.
Especially spam.
Therefore, if you do not want to become a hated figure, follow the rules of this game.
First:
We DO NOT advertise blogs…what we promote is content.
Understand the goal?
This means every time you put a link in various places, bring it directly to the content you want to promote. Not to the homepage. That way other people won’t be confused.
Second:
Your content must be the best.
Not content that just copy paste, change words, rewrite. Your content must have new ideas in it, and most importantly: it must help others solve a problem.
To create such content read this:
-
- Create featured content
People often say “quality content”, “content is king”, but in reality most of the content creators are not indifferent to their own content.
There are those who create content in just a matter of minutes. There are also new blog owners who are running around creating 5-10 content a day.
Remember this:
You don’t need to publish a lot of content a day.
Many large blogs only publish 1 article per month.
Because in the end for websites that rely on content (similar to blogs), the determining factor for success is the quality of the articles…
..not the number of articles.
Third:
Don’t use automation tools…
… at least until you have your own audience.
Speak to the person you want to promote as a human, not a robot. Perform special offers manually. Everything that is completely automated usually leads to spam.
Nobody likes spam.
After knowing these three things, now let’s start to the first step.
1. Set up a ‘feed’ before publishing content
In fact, not all types of content will be popular. Although it has been properly promoted. Therefore, you must adhere to the mindset of ‘special content offers’ since before the content was published…even before it was formed.
For that, observe 2 things: Selection of topic and content.
The topic of your content must be urgent or urgent. Topics that make others feel that they have to read right now.
Even better is a topic that can make them think “My friends, I have to read this too!”.
As for the content, preferably:
-
- Credible – there are data/facts from reliable sources
- Easy – able to be executed directly by readers
- Emotional – provoke concrete/negative emotions
If you have read some of the content on this blog (including the one you are currently reading), you will realize that I often use data such as graphs or percentages. The goal is to appear credible.
There is also content that is formed so that the contents are practical, And content that contradicts what readers have often learned. So even though there are many that are okay, there are also many that are not:
So in the end, when I promote this content…the visitors will immediately grow drastically.
2. Create e-mail lists and send it whenever there is new content
By building an email list, your content promotion efforts will be many times easier.
Imagine:
You receive 1000 attendees from various regions. Without an email list means those 1000 people will leave. So the next time you promote content it means you have to look for them again.
But if you are building an email list, it will be like this:
There were 1000 people who came, some of them became subscribers. So next time when you publish content some of your subscribers will immediately notice. This means that this time it will be easier to bring in the audience.
This is repeated every day.
So by creating your own email list, it means you already have a source of traffic that is always ready to receive your new content. Yummy, right?
Read this guide to get started learn list building .
3. Get followers and post content to social media
There is a fatal misunderstanding regarding the use of social media. I’m sure if you’ve read articles about blog specials, you must have read one that suggests posting to social media every time there’s new content.
This is wrong… big mistake.
Here’s what I mean:
As beginners, we generally only have 100-1000 followers on Twitter/Facebook. What happens when we post there?
At most, only 1-2 people will re-Tweet/Like… right? After that? Done. Nothing else happened. It means you are free posting to social media many times.
The principle is the same as the list building above, but the media is different. Earlier with email, now with social media. You do this by installing buttons/links/widgets to make it easier for visitors to go to your social account.
There are 2 things that you should observe in using social media:
First, never buy followers/likes.
Second, don’t just share links from your own website.
Follow these tips when posting on social media:
-
- Don’t use the post title as the content of your tweet or status. Explain the contents of the content briefly, but charming.
- Use 3 different contexts if you schedule 3 updates.
- The principle of the ratio 2:1:1, 2 times to share other people’s content, 1 time to share own content, 1 time to update without a link.
- Use image is proven to increase the number of clicks on social media.
4. Mention other bloggers in the content, then tell them
Their names are human…sure to hear something real about them from other people.
We can take advantage of this human nature.
For example like this:
I made an article with the topic “lose weight”, in this post I propose other bloggers in the form of links as additional beautiful reading. After that I notified the blogger via email. Then most likely they will return to recommend your post…
..in the form of a link as well or share on social media.
Under reasonable conditions, if you directly only ask them for a loan to share, they will most likely refuse. But in this problem, because we mentioned them first in the article, most are willing to help.
Therefore, in your content, always try to put links to other bloggers.
5. Join the hygienic Facebook Group
Because many Indonesians are active in Facebook Groups, this community is able to become one of the best promotional areas. Before joining, remember these 2 things.
First, don’t make special offers to groups that have nothing to do with your blog topic and content. If your content is about food restrictions, join the diet group. If your content is about business, join the business group.
(Believe it or not, there are also many special offers in groups that are not connected)
Second, don’t make special offers to groups that contain mostly spam website links. Your post will not appear in the News Feed of its members. Make sure the group you choose is active containing comments and likes…
..not just spam.
There are also prohibited from doing spam. Here are other tips on special offers on Facebook so you don’t get kicked out of the group:
-
- 4:1 promotion ratio, 4 times helping others, 1 time special offer.
- Promote links that actually help group members resolve issues.
- Follow group law. If you are not allowed to post links, don’t.
- No need to create a new post for a special offer. Place comments are also capable.
- Don’t join just for promotion. The main thing you have to do here is to help other people answer questions politely.
Don’t let your website be considered spam by the Facebook system. If that’s the case then almost all posts that contain your website link will never be seen by other people.
6. Join a forum site
Even though the number of agencies is not large and the content is mostly spam, but special offers on forums can also attract traffic. Blog promotion techniques in institutions such as on FB and Instagram or twitter.
Your main task after joining the community is not to post directly containing links…So don’t directly comment containing links let alone create a new thread.
Instead, do this:
Answer questions that other people have asked.
The forum is a place for people who want to discuss and ask questions. Not infrequently you will get people asking about certain topics.
If your content is able to answer, let me know.
Otherwise…don’t.
7. Change the shape then publish in various regions
If you have content in the form of articles, you can create videos, PDFs, or infographics with the exact same content.
From 1 to 4 at a time. Likewise, if you have video content, it can be used as a post too.
It doesn’t stop there…
We will take advantage of websites that already have a lot of readers. Then we send the content of the other form there. Here are some well-known sites that we can use:
-
- SlideShare – presentation slides
- YouTube , Vimeo , DailyMotion – videos
- Ezinearticles – articles
- Visual.ly – infographic ( see other websites
- iTunes , SoundCloud – podcasts
- Scribd – ebooks
On these websites there are already many people who are ready to consume your content. So if in the content published on these websites there is a link to your website, then you will receive a lot of traffic.
What’s more: Content on sites such as YouTube, SlideShare, ezinearticles, etc. will be easier to rank on Google than new websites. Therefore your content will also get traffic from search engines.
8. Monitor conversations and new relevant content
For example, you have content about ‘learning English’. It turns out that on a community site there are several people who ask each other, how do you learn English effectively?
This is the potential for content special offers…
There are already people who need readings, we just have to come and provide the link. But the thing is, the internet is wide. Then how can we find out if someone is talking about a certain topic?
Easy:
There are several tools that we can use to monitor.
9. Write witty and useful comments on other blogs
I am a strict person when it comes to moderating blog comments. On this blog alone, less than 10% of the incoming comments that I publish. Not including those automatically caught by Akismet’s spam filter.
The blog comments were helpful:
-
- Get an exclusive audience (although not a lot)
- So known by the owner of the blog (if the comments are great)
But it’s ridiculous that many people do spam…
Not that the reason is long, but the reason is that he really wants to ask a question/discuss. If you want to benefit from comments, they should at least be like that. There is one more type…
The blog owner will definitely be happy to receive a comment like this, rather than a mere comment. You will get the actual image. After that, the way for further relationships will be wide open for you.
(I use patterns from this blog because it will take a really long time to find examples from other blogs)
10. Guest blogging on popular blogs
Whenever someone asks a question about how to receive traffic, I always say this:
Enter an area that has a lot of traffic. It’s natural, isn’t it… for a new blog that is still quiet, even if you publish 100 posts per day — without stepping outside — it will still be quiet.
Therefore community sites are one of the most effective solutions. Not just a community site,
There is still 1 more effective way to personally bring in visitors.
Guest blogging on popular blogs. That way readers from the blog will immediately know you and go straight to your own website.
There are other bonuses Through guest blogging, because we also get backlinks, rankings in search engines will also grow drastically.
For those who have a new blog, do guest blogging on well-known sites. The results will not disappoint if executed correctly. Some tips for doing guest blogging:
-
- Do guest blogging only on websites whose owners are still active
- Make sure the readers on the blog are also actively commenting that are not just grateful (similar to the reference above)
- Don’t do guest blogging if the website is generally a guest blog
- The topic of the blog must be the same as yours
11. For readers to help promote
Content will never become popular if you are the only one promoting it. Readers must also be active. So that your main challenge is not “how to advertise”, but “how to let readers also want to promote”.
Here are the tips:
-
- Use 6 elements trigger popularity
- Use dazzling images
- Make long article (> 2500 words)
- Provide a share button
- Ask them to share
Let’s discuss further. There is a strong relationship between the length of the article and the number of shares.
Based on research conducted by BuzzSumo on 1 million posts, the longer the article, the higher the average share:
So next time you’re creating a post, don’t settle for short. Try to make long posts.
Apart from that, what you should also pay attention to is the placement of the share button. Sounds trivial but actually really powerful.
There are 3 effective share button places:
-
- At the start of the content
-
- At the end of the content
-
- Next to content (drops down when scrolled)
The share button that scrolls down generally shows the most number of clicks. There are also those that are placed in the middle of articles. WordPress users can make something like this using a plugin called ClickToTweet.
Finally, ask your readers personally to share.
It has been proven that if we ask them to share, then the amount will grow much more than if it wasn’t at all.
12. Build tribes and cross-promote with other website owners
Anything that is done together usually brings better results than alone. So instead of doing the work alone, what if we do the work together with other bloggers?
They want to be famous…we want too.
Both parties benefit equally. This technique will be more effective if you already have an audience. For example in the form of followers or email lists.
The steps to start are like this:
-
- Find 2-5 bloggers on the same topic and the same “level”.
- Write a comment on the blog (similar to example 3 in technique no. 10 above)
- Wait until your comment is replied
- Send an email, ask for coordination
The collaboration that you do can be in the form of mutually placing backlinks in content, tweeting each other, e-mailing subscribers, etc. This is commonly known as an expression tribe .
But be careful, don’t disturb your own followers/subscribers.
13. Contact those who have shared similar content
Logically:
If someone has already shared content on a topic, they will tend to be more receptive if we offer similar content. First of all, look for content that is similar to your content. Usually in the research process when making articles we already get a lot of similar articles. Save the post links.
If it’s not there, follow the steps below.
- Open BuzzSumo .
- Enter your content keywords.
Click ‘View Sharers’ for those with more than 20 Twitter shares. These are the people who shared this post earlier.
The next step is to find the email address… Send an email similar to the following:
Hello sir name,
Introduce.. I’m your_name from your_blog_name.
I saw that a few days ago, name shared a post from blog_name (this one: link_article. This post is really nice story_brief_contents.
Coincidentally, I’m also writing an article about topic.
If name wants to read more about topic, take a look at this post I made, bro. Here is the link your_article link.
Please enter as well if you wish.
Thank you
Regards,
your name
If there is no email, mention directly via Twitter.
Personally, to be honest, I’ve never tried it for Indonesian-language content, but for English content, the probability of success is quite high. More than 30%. This technique is easy, and the benefits are great.
But there’s a big catch:
…Shame.
Even if you think about it again, that the worst case scenario is that your email isn’t answered at most. That’s right?
Now, do this…
No matter how good knowledge is, it will not be useful if it is not applied. So this is your task:
-
- Make sure your content meets the quality criteria, and the topic is expected by others.
- Find the perfect community site.
- Join in, share the knowledge you know with the community before starting to advertise content.
- Make sure there is a share button and e-mail registration form on your website.
- Leave a comment below if something is still not recognized.
